The Kamov Ka-52 Alligator (NATO reporting name Hokum-B) is a two-seat version of the Ka-50. It is a multi-role all-weather attack helicopter, capable operating in daytime and at night. Development started in 1994 and the type was first flown in 1997. Egypt's helicopter is a modified version of the basic Ka-52 Alligator that serves in the Russian Air Force. Unlike the basic model, the Egyptian Ka-52 utilizes anti-corrosion materials and has a reinforced fuselage structure. It received new landing gear and wheels, designed for the increased takeoff weight of the helicopter.

While the Ka-50 utilized a single-seat cockpit, the most notable difference in the new mark is the twin-seat, side-by-side cockpit. The Kamov Ka-52 “Alligator” is a highly upgraded version of the Kamov Ka-50 “Black Shark” with a two-seat side-by-side cockpit for the Russian Air Force. The Kamov Ka-50 “Black Shark” (NATO reporting name: Hokum A) is a Russian single-seat attack helicopter with the distinctive coaxial rotor system of the Kamov design bureau. The Ka-52 Alligator helicopter has a length of 16m, a height of 4.9m and a main rotor diameter of 14.5m. The maximum take-off weight of the Ka-52 is 10,800kg. This helicopter is driven by a coaxial contra-rotating main rotor which can improve the helicopter's maneuverability in carrying out various assault missions.
